THE FUNCTIONS OF DISTRICT 8
(AKA South Sound Service Center)
Our Primary Purpose is to carry the message. In order to fulfill this, District 8 provides those services which are not met by individual groups and meetings. The District funds all of the following services.
- The Central Office
- Maintains a stock of meeting schedules and literature for groups and individuals.
- Open during the week for any AA communication and information.
- Safe and secure storage area for the District Archives.
- Central, secure location for District financial and legal records.
- Location for the standing committee meetings.
- District mailing address and phone line.
- The 24 hour 12 step phone line, which provides for 12 step crisis calls and information.
- The Standing Committees which carry the message are:
- The Corrections Committee to jails and prisons.
- The Treatment Committee to treatment centers.
- The Public Information and Cooperation with the Professional Community Committee to the public and professionals.
- Archives which keep the history of the District and groups.
- The Summer Picnic, Gratitude Banquet and Monthly Newsletter.
- The monthly GSR meeting.
- The District Web Site.
- Provides the means for voicing everyone’s group conscience at the local, state, and national level.
District 8 is funded by voluntary contributions from the groups within the District.
If you want the hand of AA to continue to be there, it is up to you.
