_Standing Committee Guidelines - General

Details:

Where applicable, it is suggested that:

 1.   The Chairperson actively recruits and receives support from the Third Legacy Committee in seeking enough volunteers to form a committee adequate in size, to perform the duties required of the committee.

 2.   The Chairperson schedule committee meetings to educate and inform committee members and to plan twelfth step activities at the District level.  The Chairperson must know and understand the 12 Traditions and be willing to teach the Traditions to their committee members.

 3.   The Chairperson communicate with his/her counterpart at the Western Washington Area level and attend Western Washington Area meetings of their respective committees.

 4.   The Chairperson attend and report on committee activities to GSRs at the regularly scheduled business meetings.

 5.   The Chairperson shall submit an annual budget to the GSR's no later than the October meeting each year.

 6.   Each committee shall elect one of its members to serve as their committee's Alternate Chairperson.  To ensure rotation and continuity, the alternate should be a person who is willing to rotate into the position of Chairperson.

 7.   The Chairperson should work closely with the alternate, to ensure that the alternate can perform the duties of Chairperson, when the Chairperson is absent.

 8.   The Chairperson should attend regular A.A. meetings and belong to a home group.

 9.   The Chairperson should oversee the needs of the committee such as procurement of committee literature.

10.   The committee should follow the General Service Office (GSO) guidelines and workbook when available.

11.   In the interest of continuity, a record should be passed on by the outgoing chairperson to the succeeding chairperson.

12.   The Chairperson should be an active member of the Third Legacy Committee.
